Another way in which we encourage our dog to bark is by giving in to him. For example, he is barking to get indoors or to get outside of a kennel and we open the door for him. Sometimes we can misinterpret why the dog is barking and give him a cuddle, a toy, a treat or food in order to keep him quiet. We end up training the dog to bark for our attention, affection, play and food. In cases where barking becomes attention-seeking, the only solution is to ignore the dog until he stops and then give the reward once he is quiet.
