Rules change for snow cleanup in Allegheny Township

Allegheny Township residents will have to be a little more careful where they put snow starting this winter.

Supervisors on Monday night passed an ordinance that prohibits residents from tossing snow and ice on to streets after a snowfall.

Supervisor Joe Ferguson said residents would receive a warning before facing any fines. Ferguson could not immediately say how much the fine would be.

"We want to get people to know that can't do what they've been doing because we can run into problems, especially with parked cars," Ferguson said.

Residents in housing plans such as Melwood Manor can't park on the street. That's to enable township snow plows to pass more easily.

In other business

• Sewage rates will dip slightly for township residents next year.

Supervisors passed a $1.5 million operating budget for the Municipal Authority of Allegheny Township.

The average customer in the 4,100-gallon category will pay $44.62 per month -- a drop $1.05 from this year's rates.
